In addition to more than 20 sessions featuring presentations by seasoned outreach experts, researchers and CHIPRA outreach grantees, Summit attendees had the opportunity to participate in interactive activities designed to enhance understanding of children and families in need of health coverage, introduce innovative outreach tools and build communications skills.

  • Walk…in My Shoes

“Walk… in My Shoes” has been tailored for the National Children’s Health Insurance Summit, so that it reflects the perspectives of families whose children may be eligible for Medicaid and CHIP

This engaging and thought-provoking activity is designed to provide important insights into the challenges confronting uninsured, low-income families seeking health coverage and care.  As a participant, you will assume the role of a family with a specified ethnicity, language, immigration status, set of health problems, employment situation, and insurance coverage. Then, for 60 minutes, you will ‘walk in these shoes,’ as you attempt to obtain the health care your family needs.

  • Technology Fair
Learn from leaders breaking new ground using technology to advance outreach and enrollment efforts. The Technology Fair will showcase innovative tools and strategies being used to pursue outreach and enrollment goals.

  • Communications Skill-building Sessions
These one-hour interactive sessions will provide an opportunity to learn essential skills related to messaging and materials development, use of social media, and much more...

    • Bring your organization’s brochures and flyers to the “Message and Materials Clinic” for a constructive critique.
    • Try out and perfect your organization’s one-minute “elevator speech”.
    • Learn more about the outreach opportunities available through social media platforms – including blogs, Facebook and Twitter and how to effectively utilize these platforms to get your message out.
